Hi! I’m Anju Aoto!

Japanese clarinetist and bass-clarinetist Anju Aoto performs with the Juilliard Orchestra, AXIOM, BeComeEnsemble, and Village Verein on clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet. In 2021, Anju entered GEIDAI’s Practical Music Program (Artist Diploma) as their youngest-ever student, where she studied with Hidemi Mikai and Michiyo Satoh. She is currently an undergraduate student at The Juilliard School studying with Charles Neidich. Also from this summer, Anju join the Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts as Clarinet Lead Faculty.

Anju was featured in Juilliard’s THE NEW SERIES in the 2023-2024 season, where she performed Alvin Singleton’s Argoru V/a for solo bass clarinet alongside a dancer at the Chelsea Factory. A avid advocate for contemporary music, Anju has also premiered many works by her colleagues in both solo and ensemble settings.
